Here at Mighty Bear Games we are reimagining gaming and building the next generation of accessible, multi-platform, genre-defining web3 experiences. We are a leading Singapore-based studio with a global footprint and a team of experienced founders coming from King, Ubisoft, Lucasarts, EA, Gameloft and Disney.

We are looking for a self-motivated and creative Intermediate Technical Artist.

As an Intermediate Technical Artist, you will be the interface between artists and engineers and are adept in both fields. You’re highly technical and also possess the eye of an artist, bridging the gap between art and technology, working closely with the art and engineering teams to create visually stunning and technically optimised game assets and effects. Your expertise in art production pipelines, scripting, and tool development will contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of our game development process.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and welcome applications from candidates from all walks of life and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all Bears.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with artists, designers, and engineers to understand and implement artistic and technical requirements for game assets and effects.
  • Developing and maintaining art production pipelines, ensuring smooth integration of assets into the game engine.
  • Creating and optimising shaders, materials, textures, and lighting setups to achieve desired visual quality and performance targets.
  • Identifying and solving technical art issues, such as asset optimisation, memory management, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Building and maintaining custom tools and scripts to streamline art production workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Working closely with the engineering team to integrate art-related features and ensure the technical feasibility of artistic visions.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to artists on asset creation techniques and best practices.
  • Maintaining and sharing knowledge of cutting-edge industry trends and technology in content tools, processes, pipelines, and related hardware/software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help define and implement the visual style and direction of the game.
  • Contribute to the documentation of technical art processes, standards, and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • An Artist-first mindset with solid engineering skills. Whilst you’re very technically inclined, you have developed an artistic eye.
  • Expert knowledge in industry-standard software tools especially Unity, Maya, Blender, Houdini, Zbrush, Substance and Photoshop.
  • Solid knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, and C# for tool development and automation.
  • Experience with asset optimisation techniques and performance profiling tools based on an excellent understanding of the performance characteristics of mobile hardware.
  • Strong understanding of the technical aspects of game art creation, such as real-time rendering techniques, shaders, lighting, and post-processing effects.
  • Advanced knowledge of building, implementing, and improving art tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyse and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Artist in the game development industry, with a portfolio demonstrating technical proficiency and artistic creativity.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Technical Artist in the game development industry, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience and have shipped titles on mobile or handheld.

As a bonus, you would have:

  • Experience with procedural content generation techniques and tools (e.g., Substance Designer, Houdini).
  • Knowledge of rigging and animation principles.
  • Familiarity with WebGL development and optimization.
  • Understanding of console and mobile platform constraints and requirements.
