Team Culture

First Light is a team of highly experienced and motivated people who share a love and passion for games but that’s not all we’re passionate about. Over lunch you’re just as likely to find us discussing what’s up with politics or what the exactly the world’s best cake is as you are to find us dissecting player motivation or economy issues within game x's meta.

The studio has an egalitarian mindset when it comes to making games. Every member’s opinion is given time and space as we know that that killer idea can come from anyone in the company. There is no ‘i' in team but there is a 'u’ in us. To facilitate this we work hard on upholding the highest standards in communication, which is why it is our number one company value. Fundamentally we are all here to learn as much as possible from each other as game makers and as human beings.

We are of course deeply passionate about games and gaming and have a broad range of tastes and opinions. By bringing these views to bear on our design process we hope to create games of broad appeal and deep engagement. We spend time playing games together socially every week and are looking for people to share and inform us with their own personal gaming passions.

The pandemic forced working from home upon us but since the first lockdown ended the majority of the team has been coming into the studio every day. We believe that the physical workplace is the best place to foster and enhance collaboration, especially in a new small studio but we will continue to incorporate remote working effectively and are adopting a flexible workplace policy.
